Common Concerns about Medical Tourism

Although Costa Rica is becoming a very attractive option for millions of North Americans and Europeans, many have expressed their concerns about the safety, quality and have asked plenty of questions which we would like to answer.

If you would also like to ask a question, feel free to leave us a message. We highly encourage you to be well informed, for that will allow you to make the best decision according to your needs.

Why is it so cheap to have procedures abroad?

In Costa Rica, when compared to countries such as the United States or Canada, the cost of labor is much cheaper, and so is real estate, utilities, construction costs, government taxes, medical supplies, equipment and medications. If you think of it since the cost of running a dental clinic or hospital is lower this will in turn lower the cost of per procedure.

Is the price the only factor I should consider?

Price is definitely one of the most important factors as to why thousands fly to other countries to have their procedures done. On average procedures in Costa Rica can represent up to a 70% savings and there is a wide range of procedures being offered including medical, dental and even cosmetic procedures. However if you have to consider between price and the reputation of the hospital, clinic, doctor, dentist or plastic surgeon, the latter is definitely a point of make-or-break.

How can I trust the quality of foreign doctors and premises?

Doctors in Costa Rica are well aware that their studies and specializations speak for themselves thus they will openly show their credentials and experience. Many doctors have also been educated in the US and are Board Certified in the US. We also count with three hospitals which are JCI accredited; this ensures that a world leader in healthcare, quality and patient safety and an international committee of health care experts have approved of the standards and commitment of these facilities.

How can I contact them?

Nowadays there are plenty of websites that are dedicated to cater to your needs and serve as intermediary between the prospective client and their options. Some of these websites serve as an intermediary between you and their list of doctors and some will even arrange your stay. The downside is that each company will have their own set of pre-selected doctors according to their standards and criteria and or commission rate. In the era of the World Wide Web, information is at your fingertips. You can have access to a wide range of health care specialists by simply searching for them on the web. We recommend that you do a thorough research on them before contacting them and also ask for testimonials.
