Having any cosmetic procedure can change your life, people perceive you in a different way and you also gain confidence in the process.
Porcelain veneers are a great choice to fix many of the concerns people have about how their teeth look including: gaps, discoloration, teeth that are worn down, irregular size or shape, misaligned or uneven teeth or when your teeth are chipped or broken.
But in real life when does this actually occur?
A few facts that might surprise you; porcelain veneers are being used by young adults more often than what you might actually think.
It is not uncommon to see young adults inquire about a way to solve the way their teeth look, many times using braces has improved the bite and alignment, but the patient is not completely happy with the color or shape of their teeth. In those situations porcelain veneers are a great choice to instantly improve their smile.
Other situations might include mending a tooth that has been chipped due impact, and in some cases when teeth are too thin and even sensitive, it is recommended to have veneers since they can give the tooth some support and strength.
Veneers are extra thin shells of material which are colored like natural teeth; they are bonded in front of the tooth to change the color, shape, size or length. They can be made of porcelain or composite resin. But what are some of the major concerns for a person when he or she has decided to have veneers done? First, once you make the decision to have veneers, it is a life-time commitment since some of your tooth structure will be trimmed off.
Usually half a millimeter of the enamel from the tooth surface will be trimmed; this is practically the thickness of the veneer that will be added to the tooth´s surface. Once the surface is trimmed there is no going back since you will need the veneer for protection.
If you are considering having porcelain veneers feel free to talk to our resident cosmetic specialist about your questions and concerns, and about the appearance that you seek to achieve.
It is not surprising that many of the beautiful and famous smiles you see have been created this way.
